The value of care in your commmunity
How CHWC’s patient-centered care keeps families close to home
STANLEY MORBY and his wife first sought primary care from a family nurse practitioner when their daughter was born in 2016. After meeting a favorite provider in Sharon and following her to Kent, they landed at Community Health & Wellness Center in North Canaan where—much to their dismay—the FNP stopped seeing adults. Enter Elizabeth Russ, MSN, APRN, FNP-C who, since May of 2024, has been the parents’ primary care provider.
”She’s just amazing,” says Morby, underscoring what he likes best about his visits with Russ: She listens, focuses on communication and doesn’t rush folks through appointments. “Everyone at CHWC provides excellent care because they actually want to help—not because they are out to make money,” says Morby of what keeps the Lakeville family returning to the community-based health center.

“Having multiple services in one place is super convenient,” says Moorby who recently needed a CDL physical and had to drive to Torrington to get one; within weeks, CHWC had added this service for others seeking their commercial driver’s license. In Morby’s experience, results from labs drawn at CHWC are available within days as opposed to a week or more at further-flung locations.
“It’s a great local resource that provides excellent care,” says Morby with fingers crossed that school-based primary care might soon make its way to Salisbury Central School where his daughter is a student and his wife a teacher. In the meantime, CHWC saves the working parents from driving to Sharon or Hudson for healthcare like they have in the past which—for them—is priceless.
