Establishing Public Policy from Community Input
FCH approved a grant to support the Connecticut Citizens' Assembly on Local Public Services initiative.
This project from Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (fiscally sponsored by American Compact) delivers a statewide deliberative democratic strategy to improve public policy by convening residents of different demographics, providing education and support from experts, and ultimately producing policy recommendations to deliver to a state legislative hearing. Community-directed legislation will tackle Connecticut’s regressive property tax system, allowing those impacted by public service funding to influence a different tax structure. This aligns with FCH’s interests in community holding power in decision-making and elected officials listening and learning from the residents they serve.
