Remembering Bill Gallup by John Charde
It is more than 52 years since I answered an ad in the New England Journal of Medicine for a pediatrician for a multi-specialty group in Sharon, Connecticut (The Sharon Clinic). It was Bill and Jean Gallup who wooed Sharon and me and supported us in making a decision to move here. A decision that we are still in awe of. “How were we so lucky to be here!”
Bill was a humble, quiet, caring and incredibly competent pediatrician who always took the time needed to care for his patients and their families. As a partner and colleague, he could really be counted on, often providing wise words and insights for me when I got stuck.
When he retired from active pediatric practice after many years of practice, he continued to be very involved in improving the health care of our communities, both through the Sharon Hospital and the Foundation for Community Health, where he has been a Board member, along with myself, for most of its eighteen year existence.
We will miss him. I will miss him.
