Grantee Profile: Geer Village Senior Community

At Geer Village Senior Community, we believe in supporting seniors throughout all of the stages of life. Geer isn’t just a place for senior living or to receive care, it is a community gathering place for people from all over the Tri-State area. Located on 70+ acres in North Canaan, Geer Village is a non-profit organization and community of independent seniors, residents with infirmities, program participants, caregivers, families, staff, neighbors, volunteers, and friends. We feel that everything we do must be good enough for our own families, because the residents at Geer are like our family.
Our services include independent living apartments, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation, outpatient physical therapy, pharmacy services, dial-a-ride, and low-income housing. In addition to our services, you will also find the Canaan branch of the Northwestern CT YMCA here. Many local civic and community groups call Geer Village Senior Community home for their meetings and charitable works.

Geer’s partnership with FCH
Geer Village has partnered with the Foundation for Community Health (FCH) since the Foundation was established in 2003. This partnership includes working on collaborative efforts for the good of our community as well as FCH grants that support Geer programs. Our most substantial relationship has centered around bringing Dial-a-Ride transportation to seniors and disabled individuals in the northwest corner. It also involved a Transportation Evaluation Grant from FCH that allowed Geer to leverage the evaluation and attain over $600,000 of additional grant funds to improve our program.
- The Foundation was instrumental in assisting in acquisition of PPE during the beginning phases of the Covid-19 pandemic.
- Other partnerships include working together on rural healthcare issues and the Rural Healthcare Immersion program.
- Geer works actively with FCH as a partner on the Northwest Cares community group.
