A restricted grant is funded from one of two types of funds established with the Foundation for Community Health:
- Donor Restricted Funds
- Field of Interest Funds
Donor Restricted Grants
Donor-restricted grants are funded by FCH with funds gifted or willed to FCH and directed for a specific use and/or purpose. FCH currently has two types of Donor-restricted funds:
- Prescription Assistance Fund
The Prescription Assistance Fund provides direct aid to individuals and families to help them cover prescription costs. This program originated with the directives of several donor-advised funds and is augmented by unrestricted FCH funds. The donor funds pooled for this Fund include the Lois Allerton, Frank Northrup, and Margaret Williams Funds. FCH provides funding and technical support to all three partners which serve our three counties: Litchfield, Dutchess and Columbia. The funds are available to all residents living at or below 300% of poverty. Click here for more information.
- Medical Education Fund
The Medical Education Fund identifies and supports learning opportunities for health care providers across disciplines on community health-related issues. It was established by pooling two funds, the Peter H. Smith Fund and the Elizabeth McCall Fund. FCH, with the input of a community advisory team uses these funds to host an annual dinner and lecture event showcasing medical education topics of interest to an interdisciplinary group of medical and healthcare professionals. Past topics have included Obesity, Opioid Management in the primary care setting, End of Life decision-making, Genomics, Immunology, Tick-borne diseases, etc. Click here to get more information and the handouts from our past Medical Education Events.
Field of Interest Grants
Field of interest grants are funded from specific fundraising efforts that focus on achieving impact in a particular area, issue or specific goal. Depending on the topic and unless otherwise stated in each category below, the FCH Board will be responsible for distribution of these funds and deciding whether they will be expensed via program grants, convening, research, and/or technical assistance. FCH is also responsible for the evaluation of these funded programs and/or activities.
- Fund to Address Substance Abuse in northwestern CT
To support substance abuse prevention and intervention strategies developed by the NW corner Prevention Network or a successor coalition.
- Help Return Sharon Hospital to the Community
