Trauma and the Brain: The Body Remembers

The Medical Education Fund identifies and supports learning opportunities for health care providers across disciplines on community health-related issues. It was established by pooling two funds, the Peter H. Smith Fund and the Elizabeth McCall Fund. Bessel’s presentation detailed how trauma affects the developing brain, how adverse childhood experiences effect brain development, emotion regulation and cognition, how to integrate various treatment approaches, and alternative treatment strategies to drugs and talk therapy including yoga, EMDR, meditation, neurofeedback, music and theater.
