Lara Hanson Barrett has lived in Kent since 2016 with her husband, John Barrett, a Warren, CT native, and two small children, Dayton Rebecca and John Aloysius Barrett IV. Lara is originally from Santa Monica, California, and has lived in the tristate area for the past 25 plus years.
Lara is the CIO, Chief Innovation Officer at Qwasi Technology, with a focus on strategy and innovation around digital, mobile technology, and the Internet of Things. Lara and team hold and have developed several patents and she regularly participates in speaking engagements at industry conferences and universities about the intersection of technology and innovation.
Prior to QWASI, Lara held leadership roles at Viacom overseeing digital products such as Rate My Professor, College Media Network, Campus Daily Guides, worked with teams to bring new products to market and integrate new partnerships like Rock the Vote, PGPF, Woodie Awards, and the Oscar’s Red Carpet.
Lara has a BA and MA from Fordham University where she also played basketball, as Division 1 scholarship athlete. While attending Fordham University, Lara built a startup focusing on empowering and unifying college journalists globally in a post 9/11 world. Since that time she has served as an advisor to numerous startups in the technology space.
Lara currently coaches basketball at The Kent School, and is an active member of the community serving on multiple boards.
